Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is a psychiatric evaluation. Dr. T will review your history, ask about your symptoms, and take the time to understand what's going on before recommending a treatment plan. It's a conversation, not a test. The goal is for you to leave with a clearer picture of next steps.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Start by completing the appropriate new patient form on our Forms page. Once we receive your completed paperwork, our office will contact you to schedule your first appointment and collect your deposit. If you have questions before getting started, call us at (561) 630-8530 during business hours.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Please bring a valid photo ID. Your medication list is already part of your intake forms, so there is no need to bring a separate list. If you have records from a previous psychiatrist, therapist, or primary care doctor, please send those to our office along with your completed paperwork so Dr. T can review everything before your visit.

Do you accept new patients?

Yes. We welcome new patients of all ages, from children through adults. We are currently unable to accept new patients aged 65 or older. If you have questions about whether our practice is a good fit, please call our office at (561) 630-8530.

What ages do you treat?

Dr. Teitelbaum is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and trained in adult psychiatry. He sees patients as young as two, though most child patients are school-age and older. He works with patients of all ages through adulthood.

Insurance and Payment

Do you accept insurance?

We are a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly or participate in any insurance networks. However, we provide itemized invoices that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Call (561) 630-8530 if you have questions about costs before your first visit.

How does out-of-network reimbursement work?

After your visit, we provide you with an itemized invoice that includes the diagnosis and procedure codes your insurance company needs to process a claim. You submit it to your insurer and request reimbursement under your out-of-network mental health benefits. Coverage amounts vary by plan, so we recommend calling your insurance company before your first visit and asking: "What are my out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychiatric care?"

What are your rates?

Fees vary by service type and are communicated through your intake paperwork. Call our office at (561) 630-8530 if you have questions about costs before your first visit. Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before your visit.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Under the No Surprises Act, self-pay patients are entitled to an estimate of expected charges before a scheduled service. This is called a Good Faith Estimate. You can request one from our office at any time, or download the Good Faith Estimate form.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, cash, checks, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due at the time of service.

Telehealth

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. After your first in-office visit, telehealth appointments are available for patients located in Florida. You'll meet with Dr. T in a private, secure video session using Zoom. An in-office visit is required at least every six months. Call (561) 630-8530 to schedule.

How does a telehealth visit work?

Ten minutes before your appointment time, go to join.zoom.us in your browser and enter your Meeting ID. Use any device with a camera and microphone. Find a quiet, private space where you can speak freely. The appointment itself is the same as an in-person visit: Dr. T will talk with you, review your progress, and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

What technology do I need for a telehealth visit?

You need a device with a camera and microphone (a smartphone, tablet, or computer all work), a stable internet connection, and a private space where you can talk without interruption. You may need to download Zoom before your first video visit.

Treatment and Care

What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a therapist?

A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in diagnosing mental health conditions and prescribing medication. A therapist (which may include psychologists, licensed counselors, or social workers) primarily provides talk therapy. Dr. Teitelbaum is a psychiatrist. His focus is psychiatric evaluation and comprehensive treatment planning. If you also need a therapist, Dr. T can coordinate with your existing therapist or help you find one.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes. Prescribing and managing psychiatric medication is a core part of what we do. Dr. Teitelbaum evaluates your condition, discusses medication options with you, and monitors your response over time. If adjustments are needed, that happens at your follow-up visits. Medication management, including controlled substances when clinically appropriate, can also be part of your telehealth appointments. If your treatment plan requires a medication that needs an in-person evaluation, our office will let you know when you schedule.

How often will I need follow-up appointments?

It depends on your treatment plan. When you're starting a new medication or adjusting a dose, Dr. T may want to see you more frequently to monitor how you're responding. Once you're stable, follow-up visits are typically less frequent. The schedule is always based on your individual needs.

How do I request a prescription refill?

Call our office at (561) 630-8530 during business hours to request a refill. We respond to refill requests by the end of the business day. Refills of controlled substances may require a follow-up appointment.

Office Policies

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us at least two business days' notice to avoid a no-show fee. New patients who cancel with at least two business days' notice will have their deposit refunded. Call our office at (561) 630-8530 to make changes to your appointment.

What should I do in a psychiatric emergency?

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Our office is not an emergency facility and cannot provide crisis services.

How do I request my medical records?

You have the right to request a copy of your medical records. To get started, call our office at (561) 630-8530. We will walk you through the process and provide the necessary authorization form. Please allow time for processing. A fee may apply for record preparation and copying.
