Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is a psychiatric evaluation. Dr. T will review your history, ask about your symptoms, and take the time to understand what's going on before recommending a treatment plan. It's a conversation, not a test. The goal is for you to leave with a clearer picture of next steps.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call our office at (561) 630-8530 during business hours. We do not currently offer online scheduling. Our staff will help you find a time that works, collect your new patient deposit, and let you know what forms to complete before your visit.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Please bring a valid photo ID and a list of any medications you're currently taking, including dosages. If you plan to submit itemized invoices for out-of-network reimbursement, bring your insurance card as well. If you have records from a previous psychiatrist, therapist, or primary care doctor, those are helpful but not required. Most importantly, complete your new patient forms at least 48 hours before your appointment. Dr. T reviews every patient's records before their visit, and your completed forms are part of that preparation.
Do you accept new patients?
Yes. We welcome new patients of all ages, from children through adults. Call (561) 630-8530 to get started.
What ages do you treat?
Dr. Teitelbaum is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He sees patients as young as two, though most child patients are school-age and older. He works with patients of all ages through adulthood.
Insurance and Payment
Do you accept insurance?
We are a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly or participate in any insurance networks. However, we provide itemized invoices that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Call (561) 630-8530 if you have questions about costs before your first visit.
How does out-of-network reimbursement work?
After your visit, we provide you with an itemized invoice that includes the diagnosis and procedure codes your insurance company needs to process a claim. You submit it to your insurer and request reimbursement under your out-of-network mental health benefits. Coverage amounts vary by plan, so we recommend calling your insurance company before your first visit and asking: "What are my out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychiatric care?"
What are your rates?
Fees vary by service type and are communicated through your intake paperwork. Call our office at (561) 630-8530 if you have questions about costs before your first visit. Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before your visit.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers must give self-pay patients an estimate of expected charges before a scheduled service. This is called a Good Faith Estimate. You can request one from our office at any time, or complete the Good Faith Estimate form on our Forms page.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards, cash, checks, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due at the time of service.
Telehealth
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for both new and existing patients located in Florida. Your first appointment can be a video visit. You'll meet with Dr. T in a private, secure video session using Zoom. Call (561) 630-8530 to schedule a telehealth visit.
How does a telehealth visit work?
After you schedule your appointment, you'll receive a Zoom link to join a secure video session. At the appointment time, click the link from any device with a camera and microphone. Find a quiet, private space where you can speak freely. The appointment itself is the same as an in-person visit: Dr. T will talk with you, review your progress, and adjust your treatment plan as needed.
What technology do I need for a telehealth visit?
You need a device with a camera and microphone (a smartphone, tablet, or computer all work), a stable internet connection, and a private space where you can talk without interruption. You may need to download Zoom before your first video visit.
Treatment and Care
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a therapist?
A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in diagnosing mental health conditions and prescribing medication. A therapist (which may include psychologists, licensed counselors, or social workers) primarily provides talk therapy. Dr. Teitelbaum is a psychiatrist. His focus is psychiatric evaluation and medication management. If you also need a therapist, Dr. T can coordinate with your existing therapist or help you find one.
Do you prescribe medication?
Yes. Prescribing and managing psychiatric medication is a core part of what we do. Dr. Teitelbaum evaluates your condition, discusses medication options with you, and monitors your response over time. If adjustments are needed, that happens at your follow-up visits. Medication management, including controlled substances when clinically appropriate, can also be part of your telehealth appointments. If your treatment plan requires a medication that needs an in-person evaluation, our office will let you know when you schedule.
How often will I need follow-up appointments?
It depends on your treatment plan. When you're starting a new medication or adjusting a dose, Dr. T may want to see you more frequently to monitor how you're responding. Once you're stable, follow-up visits are typically less frequent. The schedule is always based on your individual needs.
How do I request a prescription refill?
Call our office at (561) 630-8530 during business hours to request a refill. We respond to refill requests by the end of the business day. Refills of controlled substances may require a follow-up appointment.
Office Policies
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us at least two business days notice. New patients who cancel with at least two business days notice will have their deposit refunded. Call our office at (561) 630-8530 to make changes to your appointment.
What should I do in a psychiatric emergency?
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Our office is not an emergency facility and cannot provide crisis services.
How do I request my medical records?
You have the right to request a copy of your medical records. Call our office at (561) 630-8530 or complete an Authorization to Release Medical Information form, available on our Forms page. Please allow time for processing. A fee may apply for record preparation and copying.
